Sometimes its really too much to take in all at once. Trends that is. There are so many every year, it’s difficult to maneuver through them. I thought it would be easy to feature just a few that can be added to your wardrobe this fall that will not require a complete wardrobe change, but rather how to add just an updated piece or way of putting pieces together that you already have in your closet.
Let’s start with pattern. Patterns are in! Not that they have ever really been out, per se, but mixing them in different ways is always interesting and can be fun. The easiest thing to do is look for patterns in three of the most popular colors this fall: greens, maroons and blue. Because technically speaking pattern is not a separate element of design, but rather a combination of several design elements – line, shape, and color arranged on fabric. Often my clients have built a wardrobe exclusively of solid colors – citing that patterns are too hard to work with. I like to overcome this reluctancy by finding patterns that match who you are on the inside. Sometimes we just visit the fabric store in order to find some favorite prints. More often though, there are patterns that you love, and we can identify those and help you to wear them with ease. The biggest pattern this fall is still – stripes:
Michael Kors Ann Taylor Antonio Melani
And then here are three patterns being shown for fall that incorporate the colors for fall as well:
INC Diane von Furstenberg Fifty Plus
But, don’t be afraid to try some of the patterns (if they are right for you) that pop and draw attention to whatever part of the body we would like, such as:
Nordstrom Rack Fifty Plus Banana Republic
If you want a very trendy look and are careful to put color and pattern together carefully, you can go with these looks that are ever so current:
House of Holland Marni J Crew
The benefits of pattern are many, but here are just a few. They:
- Add visual interest
- Help to “pull” together two or more pieces of clothing
- Create a point of interest on the body
- Can camouflage an area you do not want to attract attention to
- Are a terrific way to express your personal style!
If pattern is not in your future for fall, make sure to look for lots of luscious color like these:
